Lessons Learned
In the past two years of operation, Nari Jibon project staff have learned some valuable lessons about the nature of women's work in Bangladesh, the problematic donor-recipient relationship, and the realities of women's lives in Bangladesh.
It is consistently made clear that the women students of Nari Jibon possess great agency, or ability to change their own circumstances. Nari Jibon strives to provide opportunities that economic constraints might otherwise prevent. The Project was begun as a result of action research conducted by Dr. Kathryn Ward (Southern Illinois University, Carbondale), and continues to draw guidance from ongoing research. Continual evaluation of programs and outcomes helps the organization to improve its structure, while input from staff and students directs the day-to-day operations.
Stay tuned for more insight from Dr. Ward, Katie Zaman, and the research staff at Nari Jibon.
